Iris Online Iris Online is a 3D MMORPG game made in Korea. Much like many other games made from Asian game developers, you can expect the visuals to be bright and colourful. As cute as the graphics are, do not let this fool you as being a kids type of game. What lies beneath the innocent looking appearance of the game is a very deep and enjoyable gaming experience you rarely see in other gaming genres such as first person shooter games. Usually games that have great visuals like Iris Online, require you to have a very powerful computer and a lot of hard drive space in order to download it. This was the case with DC Universe Online so I decided to download that particular game on my PS3 instead. Unfortunately not all free to play MMORPG games are released on the PS3 so most of the time I have to use my computer. That is not to say my computer is weak, but it is no powerhouse either. Thankfully, Iris Online is able to run quite smoothly with a 1GB ram computer and it only takes 1.6GB to download. For those of you, who do not have powerful computers, you should have no trouble playing this game. Before you can play Iris Online, you must first customise the playing style and appearance for your main character. There are three races you can choose from that include a Human, Elf and Hybrid. A Hybrid is a half human and half elf and has carries both the strengths and weaknesses from both races. Personally, I liked the Human and Elf characters more as they look cuter. The Hybrid character models look more like a butch female professional wrestler, although you have the choice of playing as both a female or male character in this game. Upon finally choosing your character, you are prompted to take part in the lengthy yet fun tutorial mode. It is pretty humorous that this games tutorial takes place in a circus. Nevertheless, people who will play the game for the first time will instantly fall in love with Iris Online graphics. If anyone has ever played the Kingdom Hearts games for the PlayStation 2, Iris Online has similar visuals to those games. Not to mention the controls are comfortable and easy to use. You can use the keyboard to move your character around and the space bar acts as your jump button. I liked this control scheme although you can still resort to using the mouse all the time to move around. Personally, I feel using the mouse gets a little tiresome as you have to click almost every second if you want your character to change their direction they are currently going. One of the most unique aspects of Iris Online is that you can actually turn into a monster. Each character has a set of tarot cards. Much like a fortune teller might do, you pick specific cards to choose your fortune. Once you have chosen enough cards, you can reveal the type of monster that you can turn into. At the start I was not sure what this was all about and started choosing any cards and turned into a tree like monster. Another player actually turned into a dog like creature which I thought looked a lot better than me. As you progress further into the game, some monsters that you fight will drop specific cards. This will in turn will give you better skills and hopefully turn into a better looking monster than the one I was. The combat in Iris Online is fast and swift. You can even execute special skills that you can assign on your keyboard for your character to execute. The jumping feature in this game can come in handy if you want to avoid the swarms of monsters that are in this game. Although Iris Online still plays similarly to other MMORPG games in that you point and click on a specific enemy and your character will automatically start attacking. I prefer the more innovative style of game play where combat is more action orientated where the play can initiate combos like you can in a fighting game. Nevertheless, combat is still fun to do in Iris Online and we can thank that it is not simulated like another MMORPG game I played called Monster MMORPG. Speaking of monsters in this game, Iris Online offers a lot of weird creatures throughout your adventure. Some of the first enemies you have to face include some weird mushroom-like monsters and even trees. As you progress further into the game and see yourself exploring more varied habitats, you will encounter even more unique yet greatly designed creatures. You can literally just spend hours and hours admiring the excellent level and creature design in Iris Online. There are a lot environments you will get to explore and all of them have their own specific music to accompany you on your journey. Quite frankly, Iris Online has one of the most beautiful soundtracks I have heard in a video game in a long time. The only thing that is missing is voice-overs, although not many free to play video games include voice overs anyway. There is an unorthodox story also included in Iris Online. This is because your main character died many years ago when the evil Sahar Army invaded and killed everyone in its path. Its hard to understand what happened after that but somehow you have been reincarnated and will now try and get rid of the Sahar Army once and for all and avenge what they did to you can your people all those years ago. Its one of the first games I have played where the main character has been reincarnated. People who love Asian developed MMORPG games will absolutely fall in love with both the graphics and game play of Iris Online. This free-to-play video game has high production values that put many full-priced video games to shame. Iris Online offers hours of game play full of many different quests where you can venture off and witness many different locations and encounter numerous wonderful creatures and monsters. If you are a fan of video games in general, then be sure not to miss out on playing Iris Online. Arguably one of the best free to play MMORPG games ever made.

Mabinogi Mabinogi is a free-to-play MMORPG game made in South Korea. The game was originally released back in Korea In 2004. Its popularity grew in number ever since then as its user base increased into other countries in Asia in 2005. It wasn t until 2008 that Mabinogi made its way into North America before being released in Europe in 2010. Mabinogi proved popular enough that Nexon ,the games publishe wanted to release the game on the Xbox 360. Unfortunately, the game never was released even though production of the Xbox 360 version of Mabinogi was reportedly finished. The only way to play Mabinogi is via the PC. Not that this is too much of a bad thing considering the game is free-to-play on the PC. If it was released on the Xbox 360, gamers would have needed to play for the game and their Xbox Live subscriptions on top of this… In terms of creating characters in Mabinogi, you can only create one character at one time. This is unlike other MMORPG games where you have the option to create more than one character. If you want to create more, you will have to play money in order to do so. There are three races for you to create at the start of the game. You can choose to be a male or female and whether they are going to be human, elf or even a giant. Once you have created your onscreen avatar, you are then ready to enter the wonderful world of Mabinogi. The game starts off with a beautiful introductory cut scene. You get to see the bright and colorful graphics that Mabinogi has to offer. The entire game world is rendered in full 3D but the character models are illustrated in traditional Japanese anime-style 2D. If gamers have ever played Namco Bandais Eternal Sonata on the Xbox 360 and PS3, you will know the type of visuals that are on offer in Mabinogi. Despite the game having a lovely soundtrack, great sound effects and striking visuals, the only thing missing are voice actors. Most MMORPG games dont have any voice overs and this is to be expected, however its slightly disappointing considering another MMORPG game called Wizard 101 has a ton of quality voice acting work. Unlike in Wizard 101, combat is done in real-time. All you have to do is click on top of an enemy using the mouse and your character will instantly hack away. Combat is varied as enemies will only attack you depending on their behavior. Some of them are really aggressive and attack you the moment they see you while others will ignore you unless you provoke them first. This gave the game a sense of realism just like in the real-life animal kingdom – not all of them are going to attack humans. There are so many things that you can do in Mabinogi its almost mind-blowing. Although most gamers will follow the main quests, there are a number of side-quests and part-time jobs that you can participate in. You can do minor things such as fishing or even harvesting wool just to name a few. Much like in other MMOPRG games, you will have to play for services that offer you bonus content. Its not a necessity to pay for these items, but they can help you in the long run. Only pay for these items if you think you’re going to invest a lot of hours into Mabinogi. It will be a waste of money if you’re only a casual fan and is going to only play the game once a week. Mabinogi is a high-quality MMORPG game that offers hours of fun and will cost you absolutely nothing in order to play it. The games visuals are great and the amounts of quests that are available are simply mind blowing. Even if you’re not a fan of MMORPG games, it shouldnt hurt you to give Mabinogi a go. Crystal Saga Crystal Saga is one great 2.5D MMORPG developed by R2Games. This flash based MMO can be played either on the official site’s servers or Kongregate servers. The game requirements are good internet connection, latest Adobe Flash version and ingame user account. First of all you get to choose one of the five classes given – Knight, Rogue, Priest, Ranger and Mage. Each of these classes has unique and distinctive looks and most importantly have two talent trees. Which one will be used, or even hybrid, depends on the player. The game begins in Tyria village, where the player finds NPC questgiver, which in turn, the first quest is in fact the on that will lead the player throughout the whole game. The main questline is also spiced with variety of optional quests and various daily events. The graphics have wide range of colors and effects. It is serious game, so the anime/manga cartoon like graphics shouldn’t be an obstacle for players to have fun. On the contrary it is supposed to provide the player with amounts of fun along with the nicely composed soundtrack. The UI, as complex as it may seem on the first look, has distinctive tabs for everything a player needs to cope within the game: - Character – This tab opens the character window, which provides the player with the information about the character, stats, titles, soul, achievements and equipment slots. - Pet – Every character can have a pet. The main and some optional quests lead to the islands where pets can be tamed. Different pets have different skills. Also on this window you can see the pet’s stats, skills and of course how many pets can one character have plus summon and delete buttons. - Mount – As same as with the pets, the character gains mounts while doing the main questline. Here the player can find the mount’s stats, feeding and upgrading the mount buttons. - Wings – Via the questline, the character also obtains pair of wings which improve the character stats. Also they can be upgraded by using materials that can be obtained by killing dungeon bosses or by purchasing those materials in the general shop/ - Inventory – Classic inventory bag. Here the players can find surprise gifts, depending on the level, and gather the drops from killing enemies. Also the player may notice the currency tab and the private shop tab. - Skills – The two skill trees. After every two levels, a player is given a skill point to be spent at his choosing. Active skills can be placed on the hotbar slots in the lower middle of the screen - AFK Mode – This may be one of the best features in the game. Daily a player gains one hour of AFK time which can be used for leveling. Just set up the parameters for potions usage, the loot and the character is ready to do the job on its own. - Quest – Here the player can have a look at the current and available quests along with their description. - Friends – Get to know the other players and make your friend list in here. - Party – A player can create or join party for variety of the events which require more than one character to be completed. - Guild – Of course the best social place is the Guild. Join or create a guild. This will allow the player to enjoy the benefit of guild perks gained by guild contribution aka. guild quests. Also on the UI, there are the character avatar with health and mana plus pet’s health and mana, some room for party avatars, the minimap with daily dragon hunt, events, rankings, daily rewards, world and current map buttons. Besides, there is room for anyone to spend real money in purchasing items which would make the gameplay slightly easier. AI is simple to understand. Mobs are not aggressive in the early levels, but as progression goes, most become in the higher levels. The navigation is easy by clicking the quest links, or the links given on the map tab. It is up to every player to decide his role in the game, either PvE or PvP. As for the PVP, the game has many PvP events for the players to test their skills or simple world PvP or PK. Overall Crystal Saga will provide any player with countless hours of PvE and PvP gameplay. One must take a good look at the dungeons and arenas and of course have a great time with their guild. Crystal Saga is a refined 2.5D browser MMORPG. Not only does it offer a vast virtual world, but also features a captivating and detailed storyline. Players may choose from five available classes: Mage, Paladin, Priest, Ranger and Rogue. Explore and discover the wide variety of attainable mounts, weapons and items.
