Vindictus
Vindictus Vindictus is a prequel to another highly popular MMORPG game called Mabinogi. The game takes place in the same setting as that in Mabinogi but the events takes place several hundreds of years before Mabinogi. Vindictus is also a game that was released after Mabinogi and is also free-to-play and available online. The game offers you four playable characters for you to choose from. A fifth main character will be added at a later date. The four main characters have different skills when it comes to combat. Their names are Lann, Fiona, Evie and Karok. Much like many other MMORPG games, each of them specialize in different weapons. The two female characters are good at using magic while Karok is a large man who uses a pillar for combat. Lann is a pro at with spears and swords and is equipped with full heavy armor. A new character called Kai will be introduced to the game very shortly. He is another male character and is an archer. It is great that an archer will be included in the game soon but it would have been fun if he was in the game from the start. Nevertheless, I am sure he will add a new dynamic to the combat system in Vindictus. Speaking of the combat system, at the start of the game theres an optional prologue mission that serves as the games tutorial. It is here that you will have to familiarize yourself with Vindictus combat as you will have to fight a giant spider. From there, you will realize that newer MMORPG games are taking the genre into a whole new level. Combat in older MMORPG games have always been simplistic at best. You would just point and click with the mouse and your character would just hack away with one standard attack. With the likes newer MMORPG games like Vindictus and Dragon Nest, you can move using the keyboard and dish out combos more akin to hack-n-slash games such as the famous Dynasty Warriors games. In terms of graphics, the game is stunning. Its rendered in 3D and everything from the character models and the lighting effects look highly realistic. As with Dragon Nest, the game was released recently so be sure to check your computer’s specifications first before you try and download the game. Although its free-to-play the last thing you want to happen is for you to wait for the game to download only to find out that it doesnt work. Even though the specifications for the game say you need 1GB RAM to run it, it’s advisable you have 1GB or more for it to run more smoothly. In terms of quests, it starts off like most other MMORPG games. You will have to complete the first (and easy) tasks all on your own until you can venture off and meet other players and even join a party. Its advisable that you meet some friends later on in the game to tackle the harder quests co-operatively. Although you can complete quests by yourself in Vindictus, your job will be much easier if you are in a group. Especially when your enemies get harder and grow larger in numbers… Most free-to-play MMORPG games lack high production values but this isnt the case with Vindictus. The graphics are stunning and the gameplay is smooth and slick throughout. IGN even rewarded Vindictus as the best free-to-play MMORPG title in 2010. I am sure many gamers who have played the game cannot argue with that statement. Vindictus is a fast paced, 3D, fantasy MMORPG brawler game. Based on Celtic mythology, Vindictus allows players to fight their way through instanced stages with parties of up to four players. The game has realistic graphics, and features hack and slash style game play. Originally titled Mabinogi Heroes, Vindictus is developed by the same studio and is set in the same Celtic themed world. The game was uses the Source engine, which allows players to interact with the environment and also ensures smooth gameplay. Vindictus has high production value, including well translated dialogue, a clean interface, and cinematics.

DownWorld Game Review

Downworld is a free to play puzzle RPG game. It plays similar to the famous Puzzle Quest games so if you are familiar with those games,you will feel right at home playing Downworld. Much like most other RPG games on the market, you have the freedom to choose the appearance of your main character before you venture off on your big adventure. The one thing that is different about Downworld over Puzzle Quest is that this is strictly a 2D game played on a 2D plane. It plays like a 2D platforming game as the only direction you can walk is to the right of the screen. There are no towns to explore or stores to shop in like in the Puzzle Quests games. Fans of the Puzzle Quest series may be disappointed about this, however its style of gameplay will be easy enough for beginners to master. As this is also a puzzle game, combat is played in the form of a traditional brick breaking game against your opponent. The objective in each battle is to decrease your opponents health bar by breaking the right colored blocks. In order to do this, you must match the right colors so three of the same colored blocks are matched alongside one another vertically or horizontally. Different colors will deal more damage to your opponent, so it pays to be patient in this game and choose your moves wisely. When you attack your opponent, you earn something called flow. When you earn enough flow, only then you are able to unleash some of your devastating attacks. Some of these techniques vary depending on the types of upgrades you choose for your character. They might include techniques that increase your attack power, or a shield to protect you from your opponents attacks. It pays to upgrade your character wisely and evenly as some enemies might exploit your weaknesses if you dont improve your characters stats properly. A great feature in the game is that youre able to leave the game world to enter the arena. It is here where you can meet and challenge other players around the world who are playing Downworld. You are free to chat with them to ask for advice, or you can battle to see who the better player is. I encountered many gamers in Downworld so you dont have to worry about not being able to meet anyone in the game. Graphically, the 2D style animations are great to look at. It feels much like youre inside a living and breathing cartoon. Anyone who will see you play Downworld might think that youre actually watching a Saturday morning cartoon thats how impressive the visuals are in Downworld! There are several levels that you can explore in Downworld and each of them is illustrated beautifully. The game world is very large as there are five different worlds that you can traverse with each of them harboring many levels. Players can expect to have hours of fun playing Downworld as the game is very epic in scope.

Much like many other RPGs you have a choice on what type of class you would like to be as. You have the choice of being a strong warrior, a stealthy rogue or a crafty mage. Depending on what class you choose, you will have access to different attacks in the game. The great thing about Dragon Fable is that you can change the look of your character almost completely. Not only can you change the style of your hair but your skin color can be bright red or blue even. The range of options available is nothing like in much other RPG games I’ve played recently. Once you start going you will witness how pretty the game really is. Although it’s not output in HD, the 2D visuals are still beautiful. The quality of animation on this game is something you would see on a Saturday morning Disney cartoon. The only downside to the graphics is the background. They are bland and not as detailed as most of the character models. As you start the game you will see a priestess with a mysterious black box. After you save her from the enemy she disappears into the forest. It’s not until you reach level 30 that you realize she has a dragon inside the black box that you can use as a companion on your long adventure. Before you can do all that, there’s the usual long road of leveling up and defeating a lot of baddies. Combat in this game is hardly complicating and is one of the more accessible systems I’ve played in a long time. It’s a traditional turn-based system but there are no complicated menus that you have to wade through to use your items and skills. This is because skills are learnt each time you reach a new level while items are easy to use each time you are in battle. There are still shops in this so you can upgrade your equipment, but I thought thus system was helpful for new players to the RPG genre. Another great thing about combat in this game is that your health and magic points gradually replenish after each battle. There’s never the fear that you’ve used too much skills or potions like it is in most other RPG games. I found it quite satisfying as there’s nothing worse than facing a boss with low health and with no potions left! As aforementioned, Dragon Fable offers hours of fun whether you’re a paying member of the game or not. Sometimes I forgot I was playing this game for free as the quality of this game is simply that amazing. The only thing that may disappoint some people is the lack of any music. Nevertheless, Dragon Fable is still a great game that all RPG gaming fans should check out.

Avatar: The last airbender Theres a little RPG game on based upon the Nickelodeon animated TV series, Avatar: The Last Airbender that is available to play online. The game is unfortunately not an adventure-based RPG game and is only a turn-based battle where you have to face up against one character and several of his minions. There's only one screen presented in front of you and all you have to do it pick which attack you want to execute, or to sit back and defend against your enemies' attacks. The graphics of the game are exactly identical to the animation of the cartoon. Since everything takes place in one scene, it's great to see how detailed each character is. The attacks are well animated too with a mix of fire, water and other elemental types. The one thing that may deter your enjoyment of the game is its hard learning curve and difficulty. You will have to plan and strategize your next moves carefully or else, the odds will certainly overwhelm you. Since you control Aang (the main protagonist) he's not all the powerful compared to your opponent Zuko. It's also not fair that Zuko can summon more minions for himself and therefore, it takes even longer for you to defeat him as you'll have to dispatch attacks on his buddies too. The one helpful thing this game provides is that it will tell you when it is the best time to block. This was a lifesaver since there will be up to four or maybe five other people attacking you all at once. The music can be a bit loud and annoying as well. Although it is supposed to be an epic orchestral piece supporting the heat of battle, I still felt the music was repetitive and not very soothing to the ears. It will also take you a long time to defeat Zuko. Since this is a turn-based RPG style battle, you will have to sit and wait until your enemies have all attacked first until you can fight back. Not to mention his life bar does not deplete at a fast pace. If you have the patience and skill to persevere in this game, then you may find some enjoyment to it. Avatar: The Last Airbender is not a bad game, but it won't be for everyone's liking. RPG and fans of the animated show, will get the most fun out of this little online game. But if you're more into action style of gameplay, then I'd advise you to look elsewhere. The turn-based gameplay is just too slow for fighting game fans to enjoy.
