Battlestar Galactica Battlestar Galactica Online is a video game based upon the science fiction TV series of the same name. This game follows the events from the more recent TV series previously seen on the Sy-Fy network and not from the 1978 original. The game pits you right in the middle of the war between the robotic “Cylons” and the Human faction known as the “Colonial”. Bear in mind, this game takes quite a long time to load depending on the quality of your computer due to its fancy 3D graphics. If you have an older computer, be prepared to wait before you can actually play the game. Before you begin Battlestar Galactica Online, you have a choice on what faction you want to play as. It doesn’t really matter what side you choose, although there are some bonuses waiting for you if you choose to play as the Cylons. As in every video game, before any action take place you’re forced to play the tutorial level. You have the option of skipping the tutorial but it’s best to go through it as this isn’t the type of game you can just pick up and play. You get to control a cool-looking spaceship and fly through the emptiness of space. The graphics are fully rendered in 3D and accurately captures the look and atmosphere of the TV show perfectly. There’s a tense and suspenseful score playing in the background and the game has full audio too. Hearing the intensity of laser blasts and missiles launching all around you can be a very blockbuster experience. It reminded me of the time I watched a Star Wars movie in the cinema for the first time – the sound really is that good. While playing the game, you have a choice to dispose your enemies with laser blasts or missiles. Targeting in the game is easy as all you have to do is highlight any enemies in using your mouse and fire away. Some targets can be tricky to hit as they can be out of your range. No worries as you have the option to use your throttle to fly fast through space with ease. It may not be as fast as the hyperdrive in Star Wars’ Millennium Falcon, but flying and blasting enemies in space is can be loads of fun. Its unfortunate most game developers focus on real-world combat and don’t delve into science fiction anymore. It would have been a much more user-friendly experience if you were able to use the keyboards to navigate your ship around the battlefield. Sometimes clicking on the mouse has its moments as you may press the wrong button a couple times. I wanted to shoot my lasers but several times ended up dying because I pressed to see the map instead. Not only that, but the game is quite difficult to say the least. Sometimes you’re put right in the middle of a firefight and there’s no choice but to eliminate all the targets. This is easier said than done as flying your spaceship while shooting is difficult to achieve while using only the mouse. Like I said before, the use of keyboards or even a controller would have resulted in a more enjoyable experience. As you further progress into the game, you will have the option of upgrading your ship. This includes upgrading the ship’s thrusters so it can travel faster or improve on its firepower. There’s not much in the way customizing the appearance of the ship, although the ships already look stylish in my opinion anyway. Fans of the TV show may be slightly disappointed that characters from the show rarely make an appearance in the game. The only thing they do is appear up on the game’s HUD and tell you what to do basically - though fans of the show will notice various references here and there from time to time. Battlestar Galactica Online is one browser-based title with very high production values. The game could have easily been a full-priced PC game but you can play the game for now for free. Fans of the TV series will have a blast playing the game while fans of science fiction in general will love the aerial space warfare that this game offers. Star Supremacy Star Supremacy is a free-to-play browser-based video game. It s in 2D and is not your traditional RTS game as its set out in the far reaches of space. As always in the RTS genre, it s in a player s best interest to build a strong colony so they can conquer your enemies. Some questions are asked from you before you play the game. Choose if you came here to conquer and rule over a new part of the galaxy or if you came here to explore to rid of you stress and troubles back on earth. Suddenly some aliens attack and you re prompted to choose which path you want to take again. You can retreat so you re strong enough to fight them or take them head on just the way you are. This doesn t do much as you are then transported to another screen full of options. After answering all the questions, you are then given the option to choose the character you want to be. There are only preset options so there s no form of customization as seen in other games. Once you have done that and have chosen the galaxy you d like to visit, the tutorial in Star Supremacy commences. In Star Supremacy, you are not given a very warm welcome as you are attacked by space pirates! From the moment you start playing, it s obvious that you will be playing the game with no sound effects. Although this is realistic considering sound cannot travel through the vacuums of space. Still, I love to play video games with sound effects as it adds to the atmosphere of the game. Despite the lack of sound effects in Star Supremacy, as aforementioned space attack your fleet. This is just within the opening seconds of the game. Combat is very enjoyable to witness in this game and you actually get to control your attacks in this game too. It plays like a turn-based RPG game where you can press which attack you want to initiate or which ship should go out and fight on the battlefield. Not only can you control your attacks, but you can see the action up close and personal too. You can actually see the ships shoot missiles at one another with some nifty looking explosions for you to witness as well. I applaud the animation in Star Supremacy as it is highly entertaining to see the battle play-out in real time as opposed to it being entirely simulated where all you see is a report card. Star Supremacy may lack sound effects, but there is a cool sounding techno-inspired soundtrack that plays in the background. Once you get past the tutorial, the music will kick in. I have to say, the music is pleasing to the ears and much better than most of the music I ve been hearing on the radio lately. Star Supremacy is obviously heavily inspired by Blizzard s Starcraft series as the game design looks very similar. This is to be expected since both games are real-time strategy games set in the depths of space. As it always is in RTS style games, you have to build a colony first before you are strong enough to tackle more ships and enemies. Building your fleet in Star Supremacy isn t as tedious as it is in other RTS games. I also like the fact that the game is a science fiction based in a galaxy far away from our won Milky Way. It s more unique than if the game was based upon the Middle Ages or World War II. Those periods have been covered by many game developers too many times for liking. Another great thing about the game is that you can customize the ships. You can add which weapons you want to use on the ships. This is better than just building the type of default vehicles that you often see in most other RTS games. There is also as shop available where you can buy other goodies to upgrade the ships such as more firepower and even shields for your ships. Space Supremacy is one of the more exciting RTS games around. The combat is both exciting to play and watch and I love the way the game has been set in space in lieu of the Middle Ages like in most other games from the RTS genre. Fans of other free-to-play games such as Dark Orbit should definitely check out Star Supremacy. Even fans of Starcraft might be amazed by the amount of fun this game offers too.

After a huge war occurs in this futuristic world, you are left with the Noblians and the Floresslahs. The Noblians think that technology is the key to maintaining a better future of the planet Earth. On the other hand, the Floresslahs are against this and want to keep the planet as natural as it can be. Because of their different views of maintaining the planets future, they are at war and this is where you will come in. The great thing about Argo Online is that it actually has cutscenes to tell you the story of the game. Free-to-play games in general rarely have cutscenes or a story so its nice to see it featured here in Argo Online. This goes to show you the dedication the developer has about the title and shows the gamer Argo Online has high quality production values more akin to full priced games available in stores. Depending on who you support, you can choose which faction you want to be a part of. From there, you are prompted to choose the type of character you would love to be. Unlike in many other MMORPG games, there are a total of eight different character classes for you to choose from. This is a very large number as most games you are only allowed to choose from a choice of only four character classes. Once youve chosen a character and changed their appearance, you can now enter the futuristic world of Argo Online. In terms of the games visuals, they arent as impressive or as polished as Vindictus and Dragon Nest, but they are in 3D and friendly enough so most computers will be able to run the game. Like with most other MMORPG games, the majority of the gameplay revolves around you completing quests. Whereas other MMORPG games require you to go to a specific area to kill a bunch of monsters, the missions in Argo Online are much more varied. Since you are part of a faction, expect missions that require you to spy and sabotage the opposing factions camps. When comparing the combat to a game like Vindictus, its pretty simple and much like most MMORPG games out there. Its the usual point-and-click affair where you highlight an enemy using the mouse and your character attacks using only one type of animation. This isnt a bad thing mind you, its just not as innovative or exciting as the combat featured in the fast paced Vindictus. Since this is based in the future, the weapons you have here in Argo are not the usual swords and shield affair. Here you can have guns and its quite satisfying to use as your character and shoot at it from a distance. Theres also the option for player to fight other real-life players in the game too. Although you will have to reach level 10 first in order to do so. Argo Online may not be breaking new boundaries when it comes to its graphics and gameplay, but its still a blast to play. The fact that the game is set in the future separates it from other games of the genre which are usually set in the Middle Ages. Argo Online is free-to-play so anyone will be able to experience it.
