Battlestar Galactica
Battlestar Galactica
Battlestar Galactica Battlestar Galactica Online is a video game based upon the science fiction TV series of the same name. This game follows the events from the more recent TV series previously seen on the Sy-Fy network and not from the 1978 original. The game pits you right in the middle of the war between the robotic “Cylons” and the Human faction known as the “Colonial”. Bear in mind, this game takes quite a long time to load depending on the quality of your computer due to its fancy 3D graphics. If you have an older computer, be prepared to wait before you can actually play the game. Before you begin Battlestar Galactica Online, you have a choice on what faction you want to play as. It doesn’t really matter what side you choose, although there are some bonuses waiting for you if you choose to play as the Cylons. As in every video game, before any action take place you’re forced to play the tutorial level. You have the option of skipping the tutorial but it’s best to go through it as this isn’t the type of game you can just pick up and play. You get to control a cool-looking spaceship and fly through the emptiness of space. The graphics are fully rendered in 3D and accurately captures the look and atmosphere of the TV show perfectly. There’s a tense and suspenseful score playing in the background and the game has full audio too. Hearing the intensity of laser blasts and missiles launching all around you can be a very blockbuster experience. It reminded me of the time I watched a Star Wars movie in the cinema for the first time – the sound really is that good. While playing the game, you have a choice to dispose your enemies with laser blasts or missiles. Targeting in the game is easy as all you have to do is highlight any enemies in using your mouse and fire away. Some targets can be tricky to hit as they can be out of your range. No worries as you have the option to use your throttle to fly fast through space with ease. It may not be as fast as the hyperdrive in Star Wars’ Millennium Falcon, but flying and blasting enemies in space is can be loads of fun. Its unfortunate most game developers focus on real-world combat and don’t delve into science fiction anymore. It would have been a much more user-friendly experience if you were able to use the keyboards to navigate your ship around the battlefield. Sometimes clicking on the mouse has its moments as you may press the wrong button a couple times. I wanted to shoot my lasers but several times ended up dying because I pressed to see the map instead. Not only that, but the game is quite difficult to say the least. Sometimes you’re put right in the middle of a firefight and there’s no choice but to eliminate all the targets. This is easier said than done as flying your spaceship while shooting is difficult to achieve while using only the mouse. Like I said before, the use of keyboards or even a controller would have resulted in a more enjoyable experience. As you further progress into the game, you will have the option of upgrading your ship. This includes upgrading the ship’s thrusters so it can travel faster or improve on its firepower. There’s not much in the way customizing the appearance of the ship, although the ships already look stylish in my opinion anyway. Fans of the TV show may be slightly disappointed that characters from the show rarely make an appearance in the game. The only thing they do is appear up on the game’s HUD and tell you what to do basically - though fans of the show will notice various references here and there from time to time. Battlestar Galactica Online is one browser-based title with very high production values. The game could have easily been a full-priced PC game but you can play the game for now for free. Fans of the TV series will have a blast playing the game while fans of science fiction in general will love the aerial space warfare that this game offers. If the controls were more user-friendly it would have been a much better game.

RF Online
RF Online
RF Online Much like DC Universe Online, RF aka Rising Force Online was released initially as a paid MMORPG gaming service. It is now a free to play game much to the delight of millions of MMORPG gaming fans out there. Its player base was not huge enough to sustain as a paid service and not many people were playing the game back when it was first released in 2006. It stayed as a paid service until 2008 when developer CCR decided to relaunch the game shortly after as a free to play service. A benefit about the game being rereleased is the fact that gamers can now experience a high quality made video game without paying a cent. RF Online offers excellent graphics and high production values that are rarely seen in most other free to play MMORPG games. The graphics still look great, although some might say they look a tad outdated when compared to more modern MMORPG games like Wizards 101 and DC Universe Online. Nevertheless, many people wont care too much considering you do not have to pay to play and enjoy the game. One thing I liked about the game is that it is one of the few games out there that actually includes a cinematic introduction video. These were common back in the day but have sadly gone missing in recent video games. If you have played games such as Modern Warfare 3 or Uncharted 3, you would have noticed these games just immediately greet you with the main menu. The introduction cinematic is lengthy and great to watch. It looks and sounds like something you would normally see from a Final Fantasy game. Even the song that is used during the introduction sounds similar. Soon after you have viewed the excellent introduction cut scene, you have to create your on screen avatar and the type of character you want him or her to be like. There are three distinct and diverse races you can get to be in RF Online. These include the Bellato Union, Holy Alliance Cora and the Accretia Empire. The Bellatos and Coras are your typical humans and elf like characters. The Accretia Empire is arguably the best type of character in this game as they are huge robot like characters. The only downside to being these guys is that they are all males. There is oddly no females in the Accretia Empire. After you have chosen who you want to be, you can alter their appearance and choose the type of fighter they will be. The classes you can be are: Warrior, Ranger, Specialist and Mystic. Warriors are great for close ranged combat while rangers are good at fighting from afar. The other two classes specialize in magic attacks. Finally with all that out of the way, you can then enter the futuristic world of RF Online. Before you can even touch a single button, you now have to undergo one of the longest tutorials ever created in a video game. Not only does this game teach you the very basics of its controls, but even talks about the games settings. It will take you a good 10-15 minutes to go over the games mandatory tutorial. I like games that have tutorials but I prefer when they are integrated into a specific mission and not just all at the beginning in one entire block. Finally getting past the lengthy tutorial, you are then ready to play RF Online. Gameplay wise, combat can be quite fun. Although it uses the typical point and click combat system we have seen in lots of other MMORPG games, you can use other skills which you can map onto your keyboard. Different classes will have a varying move sets so be sure to choose the right skill for you class type or your attacks will not work. The more of a specific skill you use, you can level that skill up and become more powerful. One thing I did not like about the game is the lack of direction. One of the first missions is to kill 10 monsters from outside your headquarters. The only thing the game told you is that this specific type of monster is located just outside the headquarters. This may seem like easy instructions to follow but they’re not as nobody tells you that the headquarters is really huge! Not to mention I stumbled across a warp gate and ended up getting transported into another area littered with some powerful monsters I was not supposed to battle yet! In the end, I eventually found the monsters I was looking for but the map did not show me the way as the game does not include a waypoint. One thing that will appeal to some gamers is that you can access some pretty awesome and powerful weapons early on in the game. Even if you are a beginner in RF Online, you can have access to some of the games most powerful weapons without even needing to level up for hours on end. Some people might disagree with me on this, but I feel it is a great way to encourage more people in playing the game. After all, not all of us have the free time to level up. RF Online is a high quality MMORPG game that has great graphics and enjoyable gameplay to boot. For some people, the visuals may not be as flashy as more modern MMORPG games, but for a title that was released originally in 2006, they still hold up pretty well in 2012. It is also great that RF Online is science fiction based as most other MMORPG games are set in the past. All in all, RF Online is one title MMORPG fans should definitely check out.
Pardus
Pardus
Pardus Pardus Game Review Pardus is a free to play browser game set in the far fetches of space. You are a little pilot trying to make it big throughout the universe. As with most other games, you start off being very poor and piloting a small and unstylish looking spaceship. In order to make a name for yourself, you must increase your wealth and power so you can pilot better ships and become known as the best thing in the Pardus universe. Doing all this is easier said than done as with very great success story, it all has a humble beginning. In order to increase your wealth you must accept quests to do. One of the first things you have to do is is to just collect some resources for your ship. Piloting your ship is very easy, but be warned not to travel too far. If you do, you will run out of fuel and you’ll be stuck. Thankfully, there’s an emergency booster that allows you to move in situations like this. Fuel is littered throughout the game field so there’s no fear of having to restart the game again… The mandatory tutorial level is great for all beginners to start off with as there lots of things you will have to learn to get the most out of Pardus. There’s even a helpful chat feature incorporated into the game so you can ask at any time some advice from other players if you find yourself stuck on something. The online community in Pardus is friendly and chatty so you will always know there’s somebody there to help you out. The chat feature also translates everything in English so even international speaking players can talk with you. The presentation in Pardus is very disappointing to say the least. It’s quite boring playing a game which has no music and sound to speak of and the visuals are lacking too. The navigation screen is very small and the graphics are better suited for a game made in the late ‘80s. Considering other browser-based games such as Battlestar Galactica Online has full 3D visuals, it’s kind of hard to play a game that has very outdated graphics. Selling and collecting resources may not sound fun, but as your further progress in Pardus, you can get to do more exciting activities. This includes being a criminal and stealing or raiding other players’ resources. Combat in this game is turn-based and is not as interactive as I’d hoped it would be. It’s quite lacking in the action department and not to the exciting level of other games from the genre. Pardus is also a very slow-paced video game. If you’re used to the fast-paced nature of games like Call of Duty, Pardus is certainly not the game for you. Collecting resources and trying to navigate your way through the large game map could be overwhelming for some players. Nevertheless, more open-minded gamers can find hours of entertainment in Pardus as there are a lot of quests that you can undertake. Pardus is a free mmo browser based game settled into the future where space traders, pirates and other pilots of various races and factions strive to gain wealth and fame in space continuum. With a ship movement animation you will also be able to see the direction other player' ships are facing, regardless of their animation settings. Instructions: using the arrow keys and or the numeric keypad, navigate your space ship.

Dark Orbit Game Review

Dark Orbit is an MMO game set in the depths of space. Much like in Battlestar Galactica Online, you control your own spaceship as you battle enemies in space firing lasers, missiles and much more. However, the graphics are not fully rendered in 3D like Battlestar Galactica Online. Not that this has affected the popularity of Dark Orbit one bit. The 2D flash-based game has over 60 million registered users according to Wikipedia. This is miles more than the 5 million users playing Battlestar Galactica Online right now. It’s relatively a shooting game as you travel in space collecting resources and upgrading your spaceship. In doing so, you will have to fight your way through many enemy spaceships. Combat is easy enough for any player to master and is done in real-time. Unlike with other free-to-play games, the game fully includes audio to give space combat a more Star Wars-like feel. You can hear lasers and missiles shooting throughout the vacuums of space while the ominous music is playing in the background. The only piece of sound that this game is sorely missing is voice-overs. It’s great to see the game using the visuals to their full potential. Spaceships explode in a fiery mess much like the Death Star exploded in the first Star Wars movie. It’s also relatively easy to engage in combat in Dark Orbit as all you have to do is click on an enemy using the mouse and fire away. It’s fun and easy enough for any beginner to master. It’s also great to know action comes fast and immediate in Dark Orbit. It gets boring sometimes in other video games where you have to wait and go through a long tutorial before you can engage in any sort of combat… The object of the game is fairly simple much like in every other strategy game. Your ultimate goal is to become the most powerful entity in the Dark Orbit universe. You can do this in a variety of ways that keeps the gameplay fresh and exciting. Players can level-up by undertaking the many quests that the game has to offer. Most of these quests involve you shooting enemies or collecting resources for your base. You can also achieve greatness by challenging other players in PvP combat too. Once you level-up your ship, the more fun the game gets. You can add numerous upgrades on your spaceship to make it go faster and more powerful. Depending on your respective needs, you can add more powerful rockets, lasers, shields and even a speed booster just to name a few. You can even battle other like-minded Dark Orbit players to show off your new spaceship. The other great thing about Dark Orbit is the amount of community support this game has. If you’re stuck for some reason in the game, there’s a nifty chat feature located on the bottom left-hand side of the screen. Not only that but you can visit the game’s forums on the website to look at the latest announcements about the game and more. Considering there are millions of active Dark Orbit players right now, you’ll know there will always be someone out there willing to help you out Dark Orbit is a fun free-to-play game that players who love Battlestar Galactica Online will enjoy. Even players who are fans of Pardus will find some type of enjoyment in Dark Orbit. All of the aforementioned games are set in space and offer some very fun space combat gameplay. If you’re a science fiction fan, Dark Orbit is the type of game that you will want to be playing. The millions of gamers that have played this game already know how fun this game can be.

EdgeWorld
EdgeWorld
EdgeWorld Enter into the EdgeWorld , modern sci-fi Facebook city building game that is published by Kabam behind Samurai Dynasty, Global Warfare. Defend your base against attacks from other NPC factions and players with defensive turrets that vary in range and weaponry. Placement matters in massively multiplayer persistent worlds inhabited by millions around the globe. Research tech to unlock new combat units comprised of various human and alien races, infantry and mechs, and short and long attack ranges. For decades, the Ceruleans waged relentless war against the allies in the Galactic Union. When the Cerulean home world was finally discovered, a coalition of Union forces prepared to unleash hell. Scouts were deployed, but they discovered no sign of the Ceruleans. The alien cities had been abandoned. After several years, the Union established bases to extract resources and research advanced alien technology There are many soldiers to choose from and train in the galaxy of EdgeWorld where you could drag your X-soldiers into battles. The game also offers a lottery system, known as Zoots Loot, allows players to win prizes like Energy, Accelerator, Crystals and Gas by using Gold. The gameplays reminds me of its Dragons of Atlantis and Playdoms City of Wonder. If your army is powerful enough will be capable of annihilating other bases around the planet.
