War of Thrones
Description: War of Thrones Not to be confused with the TV show Game of Thrones, War of Thrones is credited as the first ever browser based 3D video game. This means you can experience 3D graphics without downloading the game data first. Normally browser based video games are 2D or RTS games, so it is quite an achievement to make a 3D browser based MMORPG game. Lets hope War of Thrones encourages other game developers to follow suit.
A t first I was skeptical that my computer and web browser would have been able to handle running the game. Thankfully, the only thing you need to do is download a 3D plugin for your web browser and you are good to go. The plugin literally took only 2 seconds to download and install which is brilliant so you shouldnt have any problems playing this game.
Before you start the game, theres the mandatory task of creating the type of character you would like to be. I have to say, the game loads character models quite slowly as I couldnt even see who I was creating for a few seconds. Eventually the character loaded up. The create options arent as diverse as in other games, but it is always nice you can get to play as both male and female characters in War of Thrones.The other two things you can choose is a pet and mount A pet is like an animal companion that will help you fight in some battles. The mount is like your horse in which you ride on to travel the vast distances that are featured in this game. I chose to ride on a phoenix but I think most beginner players start off riding on a horse anyway. Still, this is a nice feature to have in a game like this.
Compared to other 3D MMORPG games, it is expected that War of Thrones has less than stellar visuals since you do not have to download the game data onto your computer first to play the game. The environments do not look all that bad but some of the non playable characters and other surrounding environments fail to load sometimes. This was common back in the PSOne days so new school gamers playing this game should get used to this type of thing while playing War of Thrones.
Combat in this game is the traditional turn based system we often see in most other RPG games. Players can choose to fight manually or even let the computer do the fight for you. There are several skills and weapons can you equip during your adventure in War of Thrones in which you can deal a lot of damage to your opponents. You can even opt to undertake quests automatically, although this costs money. Only do this if you are feeling lazy.
I was surprised to see that War of Thrones has a huge environment you can explore. There are several dungeons and towns that you can get to see in this game. The environments may not look as detailed as in other games but the Asian inspired locations look very nice considering this is a browser based video game.
The other thing I admired about this game is that it has full sound effects and a great soundtrack. Most browser based video games ,mostly RTS games get very boring as there is no sound included whatsoever. Not only is there sound during battles in this game, but the soundtrack is great to listen to as well. There is more than one piece of music that plays throughout the entire game so the music does not get repetitive either.
I only scratched the surface of what War of Thrones has to offer. I assure you, there are hours and hours of entertainment that can be had while playing this game. Not only can you spend a lot of time customizing both the appearance and skills of your character, there are numerous quests that you can undertake and several different locations you can explore too.
War of Thrones may be the first 3D browser based MMORPG game but I am hoping it wont be the last. The fact you can play a game of this quality without downloading anything is a technical achievement in itself. Lets hope for years to come, other games like War of Thrones are released and look even better.
