Kingdom Invasion Game Review

Kingdom Invasion is a free to play tower defence and free browser game that you can play online via your own web browser. There are many games out there from this particular genre so does this title bring anything fresh and innovative to the table? Since this is a browser-based video game, it loads pretty quickly. There is no customization screen to go through or anything like that because the game starts off immediately. You are put into the tutorial right away and you can start playing.

Much like other tower defence MMORPG browsergames, you have to make sure none of the enemies make it to the other side. In this game, there are many empty crevices on the pathway and you have to build specific towers to destroy the waves of orcs that are coming your way. There are many different towers that you can build and each of them has their own strengths and weaknesses. Some towers concentrate on killing only one target while others can include a cannon that can take out several enemies at once. You can even call in backup and these knights land on the ground and fight the orcs up front and personal. There is a bit of strategy involved in Kingdom Invasion because you have to make sure not to spam the field with too many useless types of towers. The most default tower option is one that shoots arrows all of the times. Arrows are good at damaging enemies from afar, but they are weak against the bigger orcs and/or orcs that are in groups. You have to spread the load and use a cannon tower along the way to kill off any stragglers.

Another thing you have to note is that you cannot build towers all of the time because you only have a finite number of resources at your disposal. If you want to build a new tower, you have to make sure that you are fully equipped to handle the next wave or even the next harder level. The gameplay itself in Kingdom Invasion is pretty simplistic and anyone should be able to play it. You place the towers on the path and hope they are strong enough to fend off the orcs that are coming your way. The game is over if any one of the orcs make it to the other side. Once they reach your Kingdom, you are dead. The stages get harder the more you play because you will encounter more waves and orcs that are stronger to kill. This is where you can go to the hub screen after the main tutorial to engineer better towers that you can deploy. By upgrading your towers, you will have a better chance at surviving as the game doesn’t get any easier as you progress.

Graphically, Kingdom Invasion is pretty basic as it only features small 2D sprites. Not to mention you cannot make the game full screen as it only takes up a fraction of the browser window. The graphics may not be next-gen level, but I admired the character design and cutesy presentation. The game also has a booming soundtrack that plays in the background as you are killing orcs.

The only major drawback to this game is that it doesn’t add anything to the genre. It plays and looks exactly like another free to play video game I had to play from a few weeks ago. If you are not into this genre, there is nothing here to convince you to try this game out. Overall, Kingdom Invasion is an enjoyable tower defence game that anybody can enjoy. The gameplay is fun and the graphics are nice to look at. However, the game doesn’t add any new elements to make it stand out from the rest of the crowd. If you are into the tower defence genre, it’s a game still worth checking out.
