Heroes Evolved Review
The multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre has exploded over the years as millions of gamers enjoy that style of game. Because of this, you see many games trying to capitalize on the popularity. Heroes Evolved is a new MOBA that is free to play and plays quite similarly to the rest of the competition. Heroes Evolved is totally free to play meaning you donít have to pay for anything in order to get enjoyment out of it. You can either download a bit of the game, or itís playable via a browser. Either way, the system requirements are not heavy for this game so many people wonít have to worry about being unable to play it.
The great thing about MOBA video games is the amount of playable characters that are available at your disposal. Heroes Evolved has over 50 characters that you can be and there is a lot of variety that you can choose from the get-go. The great thing about this game is that it doesnít take a long time to start. The load times are pretty fast and there are always people around for you to match up with. Since this is a MOBA, you will be playing with and against many other human players on the field at one time. From my experience, the population count of this game is high enough for you to join a decent game at anytime of the day.
In terms of playable characters, there are tons of choose from and they are separated into three different categories. This includes Strength, Intelligence and Agility. Some of the characters that you can be include the likes of a Panda, a Crab, Hades and lots of other creative designs/characters. If you thought Overwatch had a diverse list of characters, Heroes Evolvedís roster is even bigger and better in my opinion. In terms of gameplay, Heroes Evolved plays a lot similarly to many other MOBA video games out in the market today. The one MOBA title that this game has the most in common with is Smite. You are in a team of five and you have to take down the enemyís base. This is easier said than done because many towers are blocking your path and they can take you out instantly. To help out the teams, you do have A.I. controlled minions that try their best to destroy the opposition and their towers. They are mostly used as a diversion as real players are the ones that make the most damage. When I played the game, the AI was not that helpful.
The controls are what you might expect from many other free to play video games. Itís a point and click affair as you just use the mouse to control where you want to move on the map. In order to attack, you just highlight the enemies you want to slay. The game also allows you to use unique abilities and skills to deal even more damage. Every character has their own strengths and weaknesses so it pays to play the game multiple times to see which hero suits your playing style the best. In terms of how matches go, they are pretty lengthy and I doubt casual gamers will like this style of video game. Matches last between 30 to 45 minutes depending how good the other team is. Taking out the enemy base and all of their towers is pretty time consuming and the gameplay can get repetitive very fast. Not to mention if you are not very good at the game, you will die lots of times and need to wait in order to get respawned into the match.
Graphically, the game looks decent, although itís not going to have the best graphics around. You can tell the gameís design is heavily inspired by the likes of World of Warcraft. You also play the game from an isometric viewpoint which is to Smite as that game you play from behind the character. What I like about this game though is that the production values are solid. Some free to play video games are a little budget because they cannot afford to pay for good audio. In Heroes Evolved, you get good music, solid sound effects and even voice overs for each character. It adds to the overall atmosphere and makes this game better to play in my opinion.
Overall, Heroes Evolve is fun to play if you are interested in the MOBA genre. It has tons of great playable characters and the gameplay will last you a long time. Having said that, matches can get a little too time consuming for my taste and not everyone will enjoy the repetitiveness of matches. Itís still an enjoyable game, but itís not everyoneís cup of tea.
