There are no class types to choose from (at the beginning of the game) as the weapon you choose determines the way you play this game. The fact that you can use a guitar as a weapon is something I have not seen in a MMORPG video game before. The only game I can recall that uses a guitar for a weapon was Brutal Legend. This game starred Jack Black as the lead character. Only the power saw is locked at the beginning since you need to be of a certain level in order to use it. All of the other weapons are available for you to use at the very beginning. Altering the appearance for your character is there, but the options are very limited. You can only play as a human and you cannot change the color of their skin of change their body type. The only thing you can do is change the style and color of their hair. You can change their face as well, but you cannot do anything too drastic to their appearance in this game. Once you’ve decided on the look for your character, you can start playing Atlantica Online. Like with most games, the game starts off with a tutorial. There is a bit of voice overs in this game, but they don’t say too much. They’re usually just one sentence sound bites so be prepared to do a lot of reading at the start of this game. The premise of the game is to find the lost city of Atlantis. In order to do this, you’ll travel across Earth is order to seek it out. The most unique thing about Atlantica Online is the fact that you actually play on planet Earth and visit real countries such as Korea or India. Although all of the countries look different because this is a fantasy based game after all. Not to mention the game is set in ancient times so you won’t be seeing any modern settings here... The game is just like any other MMORPG as you will go around talking to a lot of non playable characters and accepting quests from them. The biggest and most unique thing about Atlantica Online is its combat system. This isn’t the usual point and click combat that is often used in the MMORPG genre. Atlantica Online uses the turn based system that is more akin to offline console based RPG games instead. The one thing I loved about this game is that it makes uses of a “mercenary system”. Playing a turn based RPG style of game is no fun if you’re fighting enemies all by yourself. Mercenaries are additional characters you can recruit in your party to help fight off the many enemies you will encounter in this game. You can control up to nine mercenaries and each of them has their own unique fighting abilities and skills. You can also position where you want your mercenaries to stand during battles. You can choose to have characters with long ranged weapons to stand at the back while melee style character can stand at the front of the pack. It’s a system that works well and it’s very enjoyable to play. Another great thing I loved about the combat in Atlantica Online was its presentation. With most turn based battles, the camera is stationery so you’re only viewing the battle from one camera angle. This game changes all that because the camera zooms in close whenever one of your characters decides to attack. It makes the battles have a more cinematic feel to them, but it also makes then more interesting to watch too. Presentation wise, Atlantica Online is one of the best looking MMORPG video games out there. The character models and enemies are wonderfully animated during battles and the environments you explore are huge. The graphics themselves may look a bit outdated compared to more modern PC gaming standards, but the game itself still looks beautiful nonetheless. The fact that the game uses real world locations is an achievement in itself too. The audio is of a very high quality as well. The music is great to listen to and the voices in the game aren’t annoying. Overall, Atlantica Online is a high quality free to play MMORPG game that shouldn’t be ignored. The huge detailed world in this game looks beautiful and the soundtrack is great too. The turn based combat system is enjoyable as it’s rarely used in the MMORPG genre. I felt the combat system was more fun to play since pointing and clicking on enemies gets boring and repetitive when I play other MMORPG games.
