Silkroad Online
Silkroad Online Silkroad Online is a MMORPG that is free to play online. The game is set in the 7th Century during the time Europe and Asia traded goods with one another. Silk was traded because it was so lucrative at the time but other goods were traded between the two regions as well. Its great to see that Silkroad Online is based on a time period like this which shows the advancements of human civilization. Unlike most games where they are based on time periods when humans are at their worst such as the Middle Ages and World War II etc. As with every other MMORPG games before it, you are required to create your own character first before you can get to do anything else. You can be from Europe or Asia but you do not choose a specific class to be like in many other games. Instead, you just choose the type of weapons and armour you wish to use. The create options are varied and humorous to say the least. Unlike in the FPS game Operation 7, the customization options in Silkroad Online are varied. You can choose to be both a male and female main character and they can be from many different races. There are humans, elves and even a werewolf! Not to mention you can even choose a guy with glasses and make him fat. I applaud this type of variety as most games these days you only get to be generic looking male characters. After you have done that, you are ready to explore the world of Silkroad Online. Graphically, the game is very impressive and showcases a very large landscape. You start off in the city and even thats large on itself. Once you start off your quest, you can venture outside of town and then you can truly appreciate the huge environment that has been animated in this game. It is truly breathtaking how large this game really is. Although some people may think the visuals may look a little outdated by todays standards. Still, the visuals hold up well and considering this game was originally released in 2005 but then rereleased in 2009 to international gamers. Be warned though, the tutorial starts when you see the quest giver who has an icon above his head. If you miss this person, its going to be a hard task for you to understand what you are doing and where you are going. This thing happened to me that I had to restart the game and look at a Youtube video to know where he was! As always, most quests involve you venturing out of town to kill a bunch of monsters. In order to level up in this game, you pretty much have to do this type of thing over and over again. This is to be expected considering most MMORPG games play like this anyway. The only one that didnt use this type of system that I played was the excellent and innovative Wizards 101. Thankfully, combat in this game isnt too bad and its fast paced compared to other MMORPG games. Although combat is the usual point and click system that is seen in numerous times from games of the same genre. I actually preferred the more dynamic system that is used in more recent MMORPG games such as DC Universe Online. Still, MMORPG veterans will feel right at home with this type of combat system. There is PvP combat in Silkroad Online which is a lot more fun to do than fighting all the monsters all the time during the quests. Theres even a berserk bar in this game where you can become a powerful demonlike character for a brief period of time. This increases your attributes and makes you attacks much more devastating against your opponents. Silkroad Online does not break bring any new things to the MMORPG genre although it keeps a lot of things which makes the genre very popular in the first place. The graphics are impressive despite the games age and its great to see that Silkroad Online is set in a time period not ruined by human greed and war as seen in most other games.

Aika
Aika Aika is a heavy free fantasy MMO RPG game. Aika is actually one of the first free to play MMORPGs with a large scale Realm vs Realm system and the first to actually have solid, genuinely fun game play Fighter (M) - Like in most other MMORPGs, the fighter in Aika is a powerful melee oriented class. They have high hit points and defense and make great tanks. They wear metal armor. Dual Gunner (F) - Dual Gunners specialize in mid-range DPS and Damage over Time skills. They wear leather armor. Warlock (M) - Warlocks are the primary offensive spellcasters in Aika. They can deal quite a bit of damage with their spells, but have low hitpoints and defense. They wear cloth armor. Paladin (F) - Paladins are a mix between warriors and clerics. They are capable fighters as well as a good supporting class. They wear metal. Rifleman (M) - They specialize in dealing damage from a long distance, making them the ideal long-range DPS class. They wear leather armor Cleric (F) - They are the primary supportive class in Aika. They are incredibly helpful to any party as they have both healing and supportive skills. They wear cloth armor.

Vindictus
Vindictus Vindictus is a prequel to another highly popular MMORPG game called Mabinogi. The game takes place in the same setting as that in Mabinogi but the events takes place several hundreds of years before Mabinogi. Vindictus is also a game that was released after Mabinogi and is also free-to-play and available online. The game offers you four playable characters for you to choose from. A fifth main character will be added at a later date. The four main characters have different skills when it comes to combat. Their names are Lann, Fiona, Evie and Karok. Much like many other MMORPG games, each of them specialize in different weapons. The two female characters are good at using magic while Karok is a large man who uses a pillar for combat. Lann is a pro at with spears and swords and is equipped with full heavy armor. A new character called Kai will be introduced to the game very shortly. He is another male character and is an archer. It is great that an archer will be included in the game soon but it would have been fun if he was in the game from the start. Nevertheless, I am sure he will add a new dynamic to the combat system in Vindictus. Speaking of the combat system, at the start of the game theres an optional prologue mission that serves as the games tutorial. It is here that you will have to familiarize yourself with Vindictus combat as you will have to fight a giant spider. From there, you will realize that newer MMORPG games are taking the genre into a whole new level. Combat in older MMORPG games have always been simplistic at best. You would just point and click with the mouse and your character would just hack away with one standard attack. With the likes newer MMORPG games like Vindictus and Dragon Nest, you can move using the keyboard and dish out combos more akin to hack-n-slash games such as the famous Dynasty Warriors games. In terms of graphics, the game is stunning. Its rendered in 3D and everything from the character models and the lighting effects look highly realistic. As with Dragon Nest, the game was released recently so be sure to check your computer’s specifications first before you try and download the game. Although its free-to-play the last thing you want to happen is for you to wait for the game to download only to find out that it doesnt work. Even though the specifications for the game say you need 1GB RAM to run it, it’s advisable you have 1GB or more for it to run more smoothly. In terms of quests, it starts off like most other MMORPG games. You will have to complete the first (and easy) tasks all on your own until you can venture off and meet other players and even join a party. Its advisable that you meet some friends later on in the game to tackle the harder quests co-operatively. Although you can complete quests by yourself in Vindictus, your job will be much easier if you are in a group. Especially when your enemies get harder and grow larger in numbers… Most free-to-play MMORPG games lack high production values but this isnt the case with Vindictus. The graphics are stunning and the gameplay is smooth and slick throughout. IGN even rewarded Vindictus as the best free-to-play MMORPG title in 2010. I am sure many gamers who have played the game cannot argue with that statement. Vindictus is a fast paced, 3D, fantasy MMORPG brawler game. Based on Celtic mythology, Vindictus allows players to fight their way through instanced stages with parties of up to four players. The game has realistic graphics, and features hack and slash style game play. Originally titled Mabinogi Heroes, Vindictus is developed by the same studio and is set in the same Celtic themed world. The game was uses the Source engine, which allows players to interact with the environment and also ensures smooth gameplay. Vindictus has high production value, including well translated dialogue, a clean interface, and cinematics.
