Soulcalibur Gameplay Review

Soulcalibur is normally a console based fighting game that is published and developed by the Japanese company Bandai Namco. The series released Soulcailbur VI in 2018 and it was well received by both critics and long time fans of the franchise. The Soulcalibur is one of the online rpg games I got to play and review this month is a lot different because it’s not a fighting game and nor is it available for you to play on either the Xbox One or PS4 consoles. Instead, this new Soulcalibur video game is completely free for you to play on the PC and it’s developed by a Chinese company called Gamesprite.

The reason this game is free to play is because it’s a browser based MMORPG and it tackles a different genre to the fighting game series it’s usually known for. If you are a fan of the series, it’s worth playing this game since it’s something different and offers a more unique experience for fans of the franchise. At the start of the game, you don’t play as an original character because you select from the four people that have been in the actual main series. The four characters that you can play in this game are the two male fighters called Nightmare and Siegfried and two female characters called Ivy and Tira. All of them have their own unique weapons and skill sets so make sure to choose a character that suits your playing style the best. After you have chosen a character, you can finally start playing the game itself!

Gameplay of Soulcalibur

The game takes a bit of time for it to load, but eventually you can start and be ready to go. Soulcalibur is your usual style of free to play style browser based game because everything is done automatically for you. The auto-path system is really helpful, although most of the time you’re just pressing one button and letting the game control the game for you. Aside from the four playable characters that you can play as, several other characters from the franchise appear as NPCs. They are standing in the game in order to give you quests and guidance. The characters all have accurate looking renders so fans of the series will immediately know who their favourites are. As far as gameplay goes, this is probably where Soulcalibur is least exciting at. As I said before, all you are really doing is pressing one button and the game does everything else for you. I was hoping the combat system would have been robust like a fighting game, but everything just ends up just being a hack and slash affair. It’s disappointing you don’t actually get to fully control the characters during combat.

Another thing I don’t like about the game is that the HUD is very cluttered and messy. Sure you can close some of the windows, but all of the information that’s put up pollutes and clutters the screen. The graphics also fail to load up certain characters and the frame rate is awful if you don’t turn off other applications on your computer. There’s not much else I can about the graphics because the game looks like any other free to play browser based video game. Sure the character models look nice, but the overall environment is nothing you have not seen before.

Anyway, Soulcalibur is a somewhat fun free to play video game that fans of the series will grow to love. Sure the gameplay is not innovative or exciting, but it does enough in order to keep you entertained for hours on end. Just don’t expect to get your hopes up because this is not a main part of the series since it’s developed by a different developer.
